On a hiking trip last year, my daughter and I were concerned that an overnight storm and wind might hamper our outdoor plans for the next day. Fortunately, the rain stopped, and as we drove the road to Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, we were amazed to see a couple of small waterfalls along the road where there had been none the day before. The storm’s downpour created rushing waters now flowing over the rock. On the return trip down the mountain, the waterfalls were gone - spent, leaving only glistening rocks along the road. I believe God gifted me this splendor so I could share it with you. I wrote this haiku, Waterfall Renew, in the evening:

After night’s rainfall

releases cleansing waters

old droughts wash away.

If nature can provide such utter beauty and leave replenishing gifts like the renewal of a waterfall, even if only a temporary one, how much more trust should I have that my loving creator will fill up my emptied stores with precisely what is needed? I hope you can find the same joy I did in thinking about being emptied and filled so that, in whatever capacity, we can share and be used.

As an emerging writer, I’ve had a sense of my voice. Still, after reading Karina Fabian’s second book in her series and following through on some of the insightful, practical exercises, I feel more confident about the shape of my voice and a heightened sensitivity toward my reader base. I purchased the e-book and found myself highlighting and taking notes throughout. I could not stop reading as every page was so relevant, and the examples the author provided hit home. What a confidence booster and valuable guide. This book is true to its series title - a great boost and warm, practical guide. I highly recommend it for every writer, whether published or not.

The first book in the series, Persevere in Your Writing, got me hooked on the author and the Write Boost concept. I could not put that book down either, and with its warmth, humor, and treasure trove of information and personal anecdotes, I felt like I was getting individualized coaching over a cup of hot tea! Karina’s books are highly relatable and relevant to anyone who loves reading and writing. Write On!

Beginnings are hard.

I fell down when I created my Substack shell a year ago, and now I am finally getting up. Technology is challenging for this Baby Boomer generation. But with the supportive writing community, I'm beginning again and anticipating new shoots. It’s a journey, but one that I hope will encourage you as I step out in faith and grow.

My Catholic faith has sustained me over my lifetime, and I’m picking things back up to share the inspiration I've received through the years before I’m too old to remember how to use my computer.
